Have you had experience with Tepezza (teprotumumab), and are you concerned about hearing loss as a side effect given your existing hearing challenges?
Tepezza is FDA-approved for treating TED and works by blocking a protein that causes inflammation around the eyes. It's given as an IV infusion in a hospital or outpatient setting.
How well does it work?
Tepezza has shown effectiveness in reducing eye bulging and improving double vision in clinical trials. Many people with TED have found it helpful for managing their symptoms.
About hearing loss risks:
Hearing problems are listed as a known side effect of Tepezza. This is particularly important in your situation since you already have profound hearing loss and wear hearing aids.
What you should do:
Given your existing bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss, this is a critical concern to discuss thoroughly with your ophthalmologist and potentially an audiologist before starting treatment. They can:
* Assess your individual risk
* Discuss whether the potential benefits outweigh the risks for your specific situation
* Consider alternative treatment options
* Monitor your hearing closely if you do proceed
Your concern about protecting your remaining hearing function is completely valid and should be a central part of your treatment decision.
